So, one thing you have to know about me...
I’ve got opinions.
One of my biggest pet peeves about opinionated people are those that can dish opinions, but cannot take opinions. Hopefully, I’m not one of those people. In fact, I love to argue haha.
As an adult–and not just as one who writes–understanding that not everybody is going to vibe with what I say 100% of the time was a valuable truth to grasp early on. Oftentimes, I hold off on blogging because I know a lot of the things I’m most passionate about writing on (aside from fiction, obviously) take on a tone that could makes things awkward. You see, the uncomfortable truth about opinions is that if you have one, SOMEBODY, somewhere is gonna disagree with you, and if you have a problem with people not liking you, therein lies the problem.
I think, therefore I am likely to piss somebody off.
Or whatever it is Descartes said.
And coming to that realization has given me the inspiration to write my first blog post to kick off my return to blogging regularly. We live in the era of #CancelCulture and overstated outrage. And this isn’t my, “I should be able to talk about blah blah blah without getting checked,” moment either. In truth, I doubt people will really be reading my posts like that. I also doubt that I’ll be putting anything truly controversial in writing. I save all my problematic opinions for conversations over wine, so that I can blame it on the alcohol, tbh. However, as I made a pros and cons list for blogging, I accepted one valuable truth:
Everbody does not have to like you.
People pleasing is no way to live your life.
For your playlist...
Come for the thoughts, but stay for the music. I love it when people recommend music to me, so I do it, hoping others return the gesture. Sometimes it’s relevant to the post, sometimes it’s not. Take a listen ♥️
